Libyan militias shut down oil field ahead of the elections

The Libyan Petroleum Facilities Guard militia forces shut down the pipeline taking crude oil from Sharara to the port of Zawiya days before the 24 December presidential election. It is unclear how long the pipeline will be shut down. Sharara pumps 300,000 barrels a day at full operational capacity. If the shutdown is sustained for a long period, it could counter efforts by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its partners to boost production. This event took place on 12/20/2021 at the following location: El Sharara, Libya.
