The United Nations Security Council has approved a resolution for a cease-fire in Gaza, with the United States abstaining from the vote. As a result, Israel canceled a high-level delegation visit to Washington, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the US of retreating from a principled position. The US stated it abstained because the resolution did not condemn Hamas. While the resolution demands the release of hostages, it does not make it a condition for the cease-fire. Hamas welcomed the UN's move but said the cease-fire needs to be permanent.
The US decision to abstain comes during a growing tension between President Joe Biden’s administration and Netanyahu. The White House accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of creating a crisis in US-Israel ties over the adoption of the resolution. Conditioning aid to Israel is not currently being considered, and the Biden administration will continue discussions with Israel on alternatives to a major Rafah invasion.

The IDF has captured 500 members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad at Gaza City's Shifa Hospital. In Khan Younis's Al-Amal neighborhood, the IDF killed 20 gunmen. Dozens of suspects were questioned by the Shin Bet security agency and the Military Intelligence Directorate's Unit 504. The Nahal Brigade killed several terror operatives in central Gaza. Israel strikes rocket launch position
