Taliban launches campaign to eradicate poppy crops

Afghan authorities have begun a campaign to eradicate poppy cultivation in the country. The campaign's aim is to wipe out the massive production of opium and heroin, despite farmers' fear that the campaign will ruin their livelihoods at a time of growing poverty in Afghanistan. In early April, the Taliban banned poppy cultivation throughout the country. Afghanistan is the world’s biggest opium producer and a major source of heroin in Europe and Asia. This event took place on 06/02/2022 at the following location: Kabul, Afghanistan.
