Somali pirates seize another fishing boat

Somali pirates have recently attacked another Yemeni fishing boat (dhow) off Eyl, Somalia, following a similar incident 10 days earlier. While piracy in the region peaked in 2011 with 237 attacks and $7 billion in economic impact, it decreased due to international naval patrols and improved governance in Somalia. However, pirate attacks have recently increased, partly due to regional instability caused by Houthi attacks in the Red Sea related to the Israel-Hamas conflict. This event took place on 02/18/2025 at the following location: Eyl, Somalia.
