On Sunday, the Somali National Armed Forces (SNA), with the help of local militias called Macawisley, killed at least 20 al-Shabab militants during a military operation in Hirshabelle State, central Somalia. The joint offensive focused on militant positions in the Mabaah and Gayacad regions of Hiiraan, which have long been viewed as a stronghold for the al-Qaida-linked group. According to government sources, operations are still underway as troops pursue escaping fighters and aim to eradicate al-Shabab’s influence in the region.
