Militia groups threaten elections, civil war over Gaddafi's candidacy

Armed Libyan militia groups in the western town of Zawiya have threatened to shut down presidential polling stations if late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s son Saif Al-Islam remained on the ballot. The militia also warned the international community that the elections will bring Libya back to square one and will drag the country into another civil war. The threats come after militias from Zintan held a military parade with heavy weapons, to express their rejection of Gaddafi’s application. The presidential election is scheduled for 24 December. This event took place on 11/15/2021 at the following location: Tripoli, Libya.
