Issa Kaou N'Djim, who had previously supported Mali's current military leader, Colonel Assimi Goita, before distancing himself, was detained on charges of insulting a foreign head of state, which is a criminal offense in Mali. On Sunday, N'Djim alleged on the Joliba TV news that the military government of Burkina Faso, a close ally of Mali, had fabricated evidence of a thwarted coup attempt in September.
