18 militants, two soldiers killed in South Kivu
Armed militants from the Makanika-Twigwaneho coalition group attacked Congolese forces while traveling through the town of Kagogo, Uvira district, Tuesday morning. Two soldiers and 18 militants were killed in the fighting. Five other soldiers were wounded in the attack. The armed group claims to represent the Banyamulenge – Congolese Tutsis of Rwandan heritage in the region. Over 120 armed groups are active in the eastern region of the country, many of which are a legacy of regional wars that took place in the 1990s. This event took place on 01/04/2022.
