Insurgents kill 22 people, wound 16 others in Ituri province
Zaire militiamen attacked the village of Damas in the Mabendi area of Ituri province on Friday, 5 August. 22 people were killed and 16 others were wounded in the attack. The Zaire militia describes itself as a self-defense group whose mission is to protect members of the Hema community against attacks from the CODECO militia representing the rival Lendu community.
