In Orellana Province, Ecuador, an ambush by the Comandos de la Frontera (Frontier Commandos), a FARC dissident group, resulted in the deaths of 11 soldiers. The soldiers were on a mission to dismantle illegal gold mines when they were attacked with hand grenades and dynamite. The victims' bodies have been taken to the Forensic Center for identification.
