Chinese security guards join Myanmar forces to defend Kyaukphyu Port

For the first time in the ongoing Myanmar civil war, Chinese security personnel have teamed up with Burmese troops to protect an oil refinery located on Maday Island near the deep-sea port of Kyaukphyu in Rakhine State. The refinery is reportedly under mortar attack from the Arakan Army, though it remains unclear if the Chinese guards engaged directly in combat with the rebels. Some sources from Rakhine have claimed that the Chinese personnel are assisting Burmese forces in launching drone strikes against the Arakan Army fighters. If this is accurate, it would suggest that the Chinese security team includes specialized combat technicians rather than just infantry soldiers. This event took place on 06/06/2025 at the following location: Mayday Island, Myanmar.
